| Brief Introduction of WACCM The World Association for Chinese Church Music was originally established in 1972 through the initiative of the Echo Fellowship in Manila, Philippines. Representatives were invited from Burma, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand to form the so-called “ South-East Asia Sacred Music Association” with its headquarters in Hong Kong and the General Secretariat in Manila. The goal of the Association is to enhance the church music ministry in Chinese churches in order to glorify God and to evangelize through music ministry. As more regional associate members other than those in the South-East Asian countries took part in our activities, the current name was adapted in 1982 at the 6th Conference held in Singapore. Our scope of activities include: 1. Strengthening our spiritual life through the church music ministry; 2. Assisting churches and Christian organizations in spreading the gospel; 3. Enhancing the quality of music in worship; 4. Training workers for the church music ministry; 5. Encouraging composers to write more new hymns and anthems. Besides organizing our main event – the Biannual Conference & Music Camp to be held on a rotating basis in various regions, WACCM frequently helps and arranges workshops, seminars, courses for Church Music Leaders as well as promotes “ Church Music Sunday Service” in various churches. In order to facilitate intercommunication and provide resources amoung church music workers, we publish “The Voice of Sacred Music”, the WACCM Newsletters, at least three times annually. We have also established web sites www.waccm.org and www.waccm.com for the same purposes. Other WACCM publications include “Enhancement of Church Music Ministry” (2nd edition); Chinese Anthems Collection I & II. Starting with only 72 people who attended the first Manila Conference in 1972 the attendance figure has jumped to over 1000 participants in recent years. The WACCM Sacred Music Education Foundation Fund has also been established since 1982. We appeal for donations from various churches, organizations and individuals so that we may arrange tutors for seminars, workshops and provide scholarships for those who are committed to further their studies in church music ministry.
